Mission
Leveling the Playing Field in Investment Negotiations
The G7 CONNEX Initiative empowers governments of emerging economies to negotiate large-scale, complex investment contracts in the mining, (mining-led) infrastructure and renewable energy sectors. Established at the 2014 G7 Summit in Brussels, CONNEX became operational in 2017 with funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is now cofinanced by the European Union (EU), Norway and UK International Development. As CONNEX’s support is donor-funded, our services are free of charge to requesting governments.
The CONNEX Support Unit, a Secretariat overseen by a Governing Board and an Advisory Committee and hosted by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, facilitates country support activities and works closely with our global network of over 100 experts to match the needs of governments. Our experts provide multidisciplinary, short-term, and tailored assistance to maximize national benefits, promote sustainable investments and strengthen domestic resource mobilization. To date, CONNEX has supported more than 40 projects in 26 countries to negotiate a better deal.
