- The Governing Board is the CONNEX Support Unit’s main decision-making and steering body. It consists of the stakeholders that provide funding for the CONNEX Support Unit. It is responsible for the Unit’s political, strategic and operational management and appoints the members of the Advisory Committee.
- The Advisory Committee members serve as ambassadors for the CONNEX Initiative. They raise awareness of CONNEX around the world, demonstrate the high standard of services provided by the CONNEX Support Unit and lobby for support and funding. They also provide advice to the Secretariat and the Governing Board.
Advisory Committee members come from diverse professional backgrounds and represent the public and private sectors, non-governmental organizations and academia. They have a wealth of experience and expertise of relevance to large-scale extractive contracts in various industries and regions. They are appointed by the Governing Board and serve for an initial term of one year.
- The Secretariat coordinates the assistance provided by the CONNEX Support Unit and manages and supervises the experts advising the requesting governments. It is also responsible for fundraising, marketing, monitoring and evaluation.
Commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in 2017, the Secretariat is based in Berlin and is currently hosted by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
