CONNEX Support Unit Advisory Committee and Governing Board Meet in Brussels
The CONNEX Support Unit held its annual Advisory Committee and Governing Board meeting in Brussels on June 12 and 13. Members of the Advisory Committee and Governing Board reviewed the activities of the CONNEX Support Unit in the previous year. They also discussed the evolution of the CONNEX Support Unit as well as its future development.
Acknowledging the dedication of the Advisory Committee members in providing guidance to the work of the CONNEX Support Unit Secretariat, the Governing Board officially welcomed all of the members, who serve on a voluntary basis, to a second term.
Members of both the Governing Board and the Advisory Committee reflected on the growing demand for the services of the CONNEX Support Unit. The organization is currently providing advisory services support to client governments in Africa and Central Asia. It is also in exploratory discussions with governments in other regions of the world.
The importance of flexibility and agility was also discussed. These distinguishing qualities serve the CONNEX Support Unit well, especially in the context of the global energy transformation and attendant movement away from fossil fuels to a zero-carbon future.
As this process will require increased exploitation of strategic mineral resources, the CONNEX Support Unit stands ready to support host governments in ensuring that the terms of the exploitation of the minerals are negotiated on an equal footing with international investors.
The CONNEX Support Unit also used the opportunity to meet with representatives of donor partners to explore co-financing opportunities.
