CONNEX mentioned at IGF´s 16th Annual General Meeting by the German Parliamentary State Secretary

To our great pleasure, Norbert Barthle, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) highlighted CONNEX and it´s work in his key note speech at the IGF´s 16th Annual General Meeting held virtually on 20 October 2020. High-level officials and top mining-sector experts from government, academia, industry, and non-governmental organizations discussed the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on the extractive sector and responses taken by governments and other stakeholders.

In his keynote address, Parliamentary State Secretary Barthle focused on the German involvement and engagement regarding resource governance and responsible mining. He highlighted the CONNEX Initiative as one example of how the German development cooperation contributes to the promotion of sustainable practices in the extractive sector.  This was subsequently followed by a detailed description of the CONNEX core mandate: Providing assistance to governments of developing and emerging countries in negotiating investment contracts with international investors, in order to maximize benefits for partner countries.
